The Queen Mary II sailed into Sydney Harbour this morning and is currently moored at the Naval Base outside our window
The ship, on its third visit to Sydney, is on its inaugural circumnavigation of Australia.
As part of a 108 day world cruise, it is spending 28 days in Australian waters, travelling from Fremantle in Western Australia and around the coast, stopping at ports including Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane and Darwin before returning to Perth and on to Sydney, which it revisits on March 7.
At 345metres long – two-thirds the length of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and 40 metres higher than Sydney Tower if stood on its end – Queen Mary 2 is too wide and long to dock at Circular Quay.
She leaves for Brisbane tonight and will be back in Sydney on March 7.
